Sound Cards

SOUND CARDS

Sound cards can bring such realism to running trains in the garden. The Mylocosound sound cards are very small and easily fit into the smallest Gauge 1 locomotives. Other accessories help to bring your battery powered locos to life! Some people even fit steam sound cards to live steam locos!

MYLOCOSOUND SOUND CARDS
Available in both steam sound and diesel. Both are generic electronic generated sounds. The steam card has a very realistic steam chuff sound and a superb whistle. The diesel card has single and two tone horns. By adjusting jumpers, the cards can be pre-programmed for American or European whistles and horns. Even Bells! The speed, volume, and tone of the sounds are all adjustable.

00 Gauge SMALL SCALE STEAM CARDS

We now have a Steam and Diesel sound card that will fit into extreemly small spaces indeed. The Small Scale Sound Cards. So small in fact they will fit inside an 00 Gauge goods van. The card is supplied with a Lap top speaker already fitted. Most modellers supply the power for a loco via the rack, so a support battery is required to maintain the steam or diesel sound at low track voltages. The on-board battery is recharged by the sound card when the track voltage exceeds 6v. See this link to hear the sounds and see the SSSSC in action.

For DC sound, when stationary or at low speeds, the soundcard requires a 3.6v battery. NiMH cordless phone or similar batteries are suitable and will recharge automatically while running. Without a battery, the soundcard only works when track voltage exceeds 6 volts. There is more information about batteries here.

On DC, the whistle can be triggered by reed switch and trackside magnets or can sound automatically three times a minute. It also sounds automatically when starting from rest. Plain or chime whistles can be selected through the option switches and the tone varied through the rotary control. As a result, the whistle is fully adjustable to suit different locomotives and examples can be heard here.

The soundcard can be installed in locomotive boilers or tenders, whereever there is room. Alternatively, you can install it in parcels vans, brake coaches or boxcars, running behind the loco, to avoid the expense of fitting a soundcard in all your locomotives. This is demonstrated here.

For DCC, the soundcard can be a useful and very economical alternative to installing sound decoders. For about half the price of a sound decoder, you can build a DCC sound trailer which can then be used with many locos. The whistle can be triggered by a function button and the concept is further described here.

On smaller layouts or at exhibitions, you can also connect the soundcard direct to your controller to provide layout wide sound effects as described here.

Please note that high frequency track cleaners are not suitable for use with MyLocoSound soundcards
